About Bastiaan Westerbeek
Bastiaan Westerbeek is a producer, guitarist, and studio engineer with a strong passion for progressive metal and artist development. He graduated from the MediaMusic programme at ArtEZ University of the Arts, specializing in Bands & Artist Production.
Driven by a passion for heavy music and high-quality productions, Bastiaan is dedicated to producing bands and artists within the progressive metal scene. During his studies, he developed his expertise in recording, mixing, mastering, and music production by organizing professional studio sessions and continuously refining his workflow. He spends countless hours studying the work of renowned producers while further developing his own productions in the studio.
Bastiaan has been playing electric guitar since the age of ten and has developed a distinctive musical style rooted in progressive metal, enriched with influences from funk and pop. Alongside his production work, he writes, records, and produces his own original music.
Since December 2023, Bastiaan has been one of the guitarists of Nymue, a cinematic progressive metalcore band that combines crushing metalcore with orchestral film-score influences and symphonic elements. Beyond performing live, he plays an active role in the band’s creative and technical production. He is currently responsible for recording and mixing Nymue’s highly anticipated debut album, Born From Dark Waters, scheduled for release in October 2026. Bastiaan also appears in the band’s official music videos, contributing both musically and visually to Nymue’s artistic identity.
In addition to Nymue, Bastiaan performs as guitarist for Rick Planting, where he contributes to both songwriting and live performances.
Alongside his work as a musician and producer, Bastiaan has built extensive experience as a live audio engineer. As part of the internal ArtEZ technical team, he trained as a Front of House (FOH) engineer and has worked on numerous live productions as a sound technician. During his time at the ArtEZ Conservatory, he also provided technical support, managed equipment lending, and taught stage technology to third-year music students.
From September 1st, 2026, Bastiaan will join Red Bee Media as an Audio Engineer, where he will further expand his expertise in professional audio production while continuing his work as a producer, guitarist, and live engineer.
Combining creativity with technical precision, Bastiaan strives to create productions that are powerful, detailed, and emotionally compelling. Whether in the studio, on stage, or behind the mixing console, his goal is always to help bring music to its highest potential.

From the moment Bastiaan started making music, he was fascinated by the connection between creativity and sound. His biggest challenge was translating the sound he imagined into a finished production that truly captured his artistic vision. That passion for shaping sound ultimately led him to study MediaMusic at ArtEZ University of the Arts.
During his studies, Bastiaan discovered a deep passion for recording, mixing, and producing bands. Courses such as ProducerLab Recording sparked his enthusiasm for working in the studio, and from that moment on he dedicated himself to recording, editing, and producing as many artists and bands as possible. His goal has always been to create productions that faithfully translate an artist’s vision into a powerful and polished final result.
Throughout his education, Bastiaan gained extensive hands-on experience in professional recording sessions and developed a strong eye for both technical precision and musical detail. This led to a close collaboration with Woodstock Recording Studio in Enschede, where he was regularly invited to engineer studio sessions. There, he worked on songwriting sessions and full-band recordings, taking responsibility for recording, microphone placement, editing, and session preparation. During these productions, he collaborated with internationally recognized musicians, including Phillip Lassiter and Bas Westerweel.
Today, Bastiaan works as a freelance recording, mixing, and audio engineer, helping artists transform their ideas into professional productions. Whether capturing a live band in the studio, refining a mix, or producing a complete record, his focus is always on delivering recordings that sound authentic, impactful, and true to the artist’s vision.
FOH
Since I started making music, my biggest frustration was that the sound I heard in my head never quite came out of the speakers. The vision and sonic character I imagined were always an essential part of my productions. That frustration is what led me to study MediaMusic at ArtEZ.
Since 2024, I have been the guitarist for the symphonic cinematis metalcore band Nymue. With this project, we create modern, cinematic metal tracks supported by grand orchestral arrangements, blending heavy element with expansive soundscapes.
Withing Nymue, I am primarily responsible for the composition, recording, mixing and mastering of our music. I oversee the entire production, recording, mixing and mastering of our music. I oversee the entire production process to ensure that he final result the atristic vision and sonic intensity we aim to achieve.
